Yeah i agree if it was an independent artist it most probably be the other way round. But isnt that more to do with big labels buying their way out of trouble? Music is a big labels game, thats what i meant by its all in the business. True music as any other intellectual property can be considered copyrighted the moment you create if there is proof of date. You say the original authors got proof? Wrong. Music is protected by copyright the moment you create it. Registering with the copyright office is just a standard way to prove you made the music before a certain date. But It's not the only way. The original artist's song won a contest in 2000. There's plenty of proof that he created his music then.

guys need to chill. firstly most of us arent in the business kneedeep like Timbo so its a whole different ball game. You have a good point about copyright.But the original composer must have some kind of Official Copyright to his music, even if he sent it to himself through registered Post.(SIMPLEST WAY TO COPYRIGHT MUSIC) if he did not,,he wont have a foot to stand on.
